Training & Educational Programs

Lodging and meals are provided at no cost to families, however a $50 registration fee is required. Throughout the weekend, children will receive support by trained staff and volunteers and participate in fun, recreational activities while parents/caregivers gain community resources, financial tips and tools to manage stress.

(Fall) For families facing the challenges of caregiving with children and teens with special needs and their siblings, ages 6 and up
(Spring) For kinship, adoptive and foster families facing the challenges of caregiving with children ages 6 and up

The caregiving wellness webinar provides general caregiving 101 resources and tips for self-care and balance. This webinar can be viewed online. The CRC can also host a virtual or in person session for employers or community groups that can be catered to different audiences.

If you have a training program focused on respite and family caregivers, the Colorado Respite Coalition wants to hear about it! Submit your training proposal using the form below to be considered for financial assistance with program costs. Collaborative trainings and partnerships are welcome. REST (Respite Education and Support Tools) is an evidence-based respite-training program that prepares individuals to conduct respite, equipping REST Companions to provide respite in order to support caregivers who are caring for people with disabilities and healthcare needs across the lifespan.

There are some CRC partners throughout the state that provide REST trainings. This training is great for those starting a volunteer respite program, faith communities developing caregiving ministries, and other organizations that want to support caregivers and provide non-medical respite care. 

REST Companions will learn:

• Communication Techniques
• Respecting Independence and Abilities of Care Receiver
• Family Diversity
• Adapting Activities
• Universal Precautions
• Abuse/Neglect and Crisis Intervention
• Understanding Behaviors

Developed by the UT Health Science Center and distributed by Wellmed, the Stress-Busting Program is offered for both family and professional caregivers. The course was originally developed for emergency first responders and has been expanded to include different types of caregivers.

The Stress-Busting program is designed to give practical tips and tricks for:

• Understanding compassion fatigue
• Stress management techniques
• Relaxation and coping strategies

Stress-Busting Program for Caring Professionals

We are now scheduling our FREE Stress-Busting Program for Professional Caregivers. This 8-hour (one full day) training is offered at no cost to agencies, and we will come to you. 

This program brings practical stress-management tools to your staff and helps to prevent burnout. An interactive and relaxing session. 

Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers

Two tracks are available: for family caregivers of individuals with chronic conditions; and for family caregivers of individuals with Alzheimer's or other forms of Dementia 

The Stress-Busting Program for Family Caregivers meets for 1.5 hours per week, over a 9-week period. Group sizes are limited to 10 people. 

Family Caregivers receive one stress management technique per week, along with a supportive discussion and reflection. 

We typically offer the Stress-Busting Program twice per year. If you are interested in learning more, email  CRCinfo@EastersealsColorado.Org.

Throughout 2018, the Colorado Respite Coalition, Easterseals Colorado, and JFK Partners joined forces to host the educational series: Challenging Behaviors in Respite Care: Understanding Behaviors Across All Ages and Strategies to Decrease Challenging Behaviors.

This 4-part series provides practical information for understanding, preventing and mitigating challenging behaviors that may arise when caregiving for an individual with special healthcare needs.

There is a session focused on each of these age groups:

• children (birth - 16yrs)
• teens and young adults (16 - 21yrs)
• adults (21 - 65yrs)
• older adults (65+yrs)
